Advocacy is a vital tool in spreading awareness and shattering the myths and misconceptions about Disability. Advocacy plays a critical role in ensuring that the rights and interests of people with a disability are respected and realised.

DRDF aims to serve as the voice of people with disabilities and

  • to provide them with information and resources
  • that the rights of people with disabilities, are upheld
  • Assist people with disabilities to resolve accessibility related problems.
  • Provide information and support
  • Refer to appropriate services.
  • Represent individuals when dealing with service providers
  • Take up issues with appropriate government departments and Ministers.
  • Refer to the Commissioner of Disabilities for Discrimination.
  • Action to influence broad changes to enable access and participation for people with disabilities in the community.
     

    DRDF has been involved in the planning, development and monitoring of services for people with disabilities at a local, regional, state and national level.

    Tools of Advocacy

  • Conduct meetings, surveys, from time to time to identify issues.
  • Conduct talks with Schools, Colleges and Universities to create awareness
  • Conduct training sessions for persons with disabilities, community and corporate offices
  • Write articles for the news media.
